Family Fun or Since When Did Water Sildes Scare Me?
For once my wife and I both had the same day off. It was purely by accident I assure you. :)
So we got up early at the crack of 11am and began getting things ready for our trip to Ocean Breeze Fun Park which is local water park. It's big enough to have plenty of things to do but not so big that you need to be airlifted to the parking lot and things aren't hella expensive. It was just my wife, my 2 yr old daughter Athena and myself.
We pretty much spent the whole day in the kiddy section with a brief excursion into the big wave pool. The wave pool had music playing the whole time and every time the waves started they would play "We Will Rock You" by Queen. And it was the cutest thing ever to see Athena dancing in the shallow end of the wave pool to the music.
Of course my wife was the responsible one and brought sunscreen so we got Athena covered so she didn't burn. In the process of me beating me chest and grunting my wife gave me the look of doom that translated into: You better put some screen on or else. So I got my arms and shoulders covered and didn't even forget to do my face. So all day I was like "In your face sun!" Of course the sun had the last laugh since I missed my lower back right above my waist. And who would have guessed that when every hair on your head is only 1/8 inch long you should wear a hat or put some sun screen on your scalp. Not me at least. And I kind of didn't go all the way to my hairline so I have these sun burned triangles on the side of my forehead and of course a burned scalp and ears.
I guess that's what I get for not going out in the sun for extended periods of time for about 10 years. My uber paleness really brings out those sun burned parts on my face too...I'm so lucky. lol. While we were there I kind of wanted to ride one of the water slides and mentioned it to my wife so before we left she let me sneak off and do that while she packed our stuff up. Apparently at some point in the last 10 years I became a big wuss.
I was actually afraid to ride some of the slides. I knew I wasn't going to go down the straight into hell sheer drop slides. I am most definitely not a roller coaster type person so had no interest in weightlessness or sudden drops. But I wanted to ride the slide that's not real steep but is quick and twisty. But the fact that it was at least 50 feet in the air with an open slide just creeped me out. I kept picturing me taking a turn too fast and shooting over the side and falling to my embarrassing death. Just picture a slide that only has a pole under holding it up and nothing to either side. If it had been a closed pipe I would have been fine but I didn't want to be this month's amusement park fatality.
Eventually I decided not to look like a total loser in front of a bunch of 12 year olds and rode one of the slides. (It's like junior high all over again!) It was fun but I did look like an idiot when I came out of one of the chutes and totally flipped my inner tube over with me in it.
Maybe next time I'll lose that fear of the unknown and/or lack of control and ride some more slides. I do plan to go back since it was fun and 2 year olds get in for free. :D And on the plus side it's not expensive. It's only about 20.00 to get in and the food and other things are pretty reasonable. No 6.00 drinks/10.00 personal pizzas/parking charges to kill a family budget.
