This is a bit of hyprocrisy since I am a gamer too but I don't care. There's gamer and there's !gamer!
I have a group of !gamers! sitting in my store right now. 4 of the 6 are dressed in black or...black. They are playing D&D which I like but their style of D&D is like a cult. Cult D&D seems to be all about having an excuse to talk about the most disturbing & offensive subjects. We allow open gaming in our store but is it really necessary to engage in discussions about pentacles, demons etc with the random donut sales guy who is raising money for his church.
Donut guy: "Donuts for sale! Anybody hungry? Hey you guys playing some wargames?"
!gamer!: "No! We're summoning demons!"
Donut guy: "Like those guys from Lord of the Rings...Nazguls?"
!gamer! "Beelzebub and Asmodeus! Pentacles are cool!"
And this followed by more devil/demon taunting to the donut guy until he leaves. Is that necessary? As a gamer I don't want people associating gaming with demons or things that are bad.
Add to this the fact that everything they are saying apparently needs to be at maximum volume. Some of my favorite quotes so far are:
"Playing in traffic is fun."
"I've been Goth since I was 8 years old."
"I ordered a vial of Dracula's blood on ebay. I have a feeling that this time it's the real thing."
And to add insult to injury they will be here from open to close most likely. *sigh*
