I played another Warhammer Fantasy Rogue Trader Tournament today at my store Atlantis. After much battle the mighty Empire of Sigmar was awarded the Best General award. This award is based on your sportsmanship score and battle point score. It boils down to mean that you kicked a lot of ass AND everybody had fun playing you.
First round I played Calvin (who I had never met before). He was playing Wood Elves which I had never faced before. During setup I was really sweating when he put out a dragon. The elves were pretty mobile having flyers, fast cavalry and skirmishing units. After an early cannon misfire which blew up my cannon it went downhill. It wasn't a devastating defeat but he did kill about 25% of my army. Usually that is expected but the problem arose when I actually did almost no damage to his army. Basically he just kept away from me. His dragon didn't even eat anybody. Outcome: Loss
Second round I faced Chris Sutton. He is a regular at the shop. Hopefully he doesn't have a LJ but I have to admit that usually he annoys me. This was the first time I had seen his army fully painted. And it looked pretty awesome. He was fielding an army og Ogres. Luckily he was relying on a pre-designed battle plan that didn't take into account terrain or my deployment. It was like he had a playbook with only one plan. So terrain didn't really help him. After 5 turns I had wiped out his entire army except for 2 Ogre Bulls and a unit of Gnoblars. Which means I killed about 95% of his force with lowly humans. Outcome: Win with maximum points
Third round Sigmar's defenders had to face Vampire Counts. The game had some crazy rolls on each side including a cannonball that plowed through 4 skeletons yet somehow didn't wound them. And one of my wizards miscast and was thrown about 6 inches. Luckily he didn't hit anything. Of course he couldn't cast spells for the rest of the game...and the models arm fell off. oops. I can say that a steam tank can roll over skeletons fairly well. After 5 turns I had only lost 2 units while killing about 70% of my opponents force. Pretty brutal. Outcome: Win with almost maximum points.
I can only assume that my opponents had a good time since I had to have good sportsmanship as well as good battle results to win the award I did. And I must say it feels good to get an award for something that you did.
That brings the awards total to:
1 Best General
1 Best Appearance
1 Best Sportsman
I just need to get Overall Champion and Best Army to have one of each.
