Northern Kentucky is NOT where Gen Con Is
So as many of you (or none of you) knew I am going to Gen Con Indy which is Thursday till Sunday. I started the day off great with my UPS shipment arriving 3 hours late due to some new UPS guy. But hey...it's cool. I planned for extra people just in case that happened. So it sucked but we got it done.
My flight was scheduled to leave at 5:07PM. So we left to go to the airport at 3:30PM. Everything was going good; no traffic, no long lines at check-in. So we decided to get something to eat real quick. I wanted pizza from Uno's. So I order a pepperoni. The cashier tells me it'll be about 8-10 minutes. So I'm like 'That shouldn't be bad.' After almost 20 minutes I get my pizza and realize that I should have not waited for it. It's now 4:45 and we still have to get through the security checkpoint. So I rush to the security line which doesn't look too long and get in. While moving along I stuff my face with pizza....which is still cold in the middle. What the fuck!?!?! And it gets worse, the security line looks short until you get to the point where it goes around the corner and wraps a couple of times. We now have exactly 17 minutes to clear security and get to gate 21 before the plane leaves. So we get through and practically run to our gate...to find out our plane was delayed and it should be here any minute. *whew* Lucky break right?
So the plane shows up and we board. Everything seems to be fine. They tell us we should be taking off at 5:30. Except some door on the engine won't shut so they have to call a mechanic team out to fix the plane while we're on it. They keep saying that it shouldn't be that much longer. I'm kind of tired so I end up falling asleep. I wake up at 7:15...to find out we still haven't taken off. Although they finally got everything fixed and we do take off at 7:30. Let's see...it's about an hour and twenty minute flight and my connecting flight in Cincinnati leaves at 7:45. Maybe while I was asleep they installed a warp drive or something. Norfolk to Cincinnati is doable in 15 minutes right? If only this were bad fanfic it would work! Except there'd probably be some Mary Sue flight attendant I'd be forced to destroy.
At this point we're hoping our flight in Cincinnati is delayed. Of course it was on time. So now I'm sitting in a hotel room paid for by Delta with pizza also paid for by Delta. The only down side is that I don't have any clean clothes since our luggage is unavailable for pickup. We could specially request they go back and get it but it would take another hour of waiting. So I'll be wearing the same clothes again tomorrow. I bet all you ladies are crawling all over yourselves to get to me now! :)
While it sucks that the only flight they could get us is tomorrow at 9 at least it's taken care of. I did think it was kind of laughable that the meal vouchers they gave us were only for 7.00 per meal. Where the hell can you eat for 7.00 a person that doesn't require you to drive there. So we used our two dinner vouchers and our two breakfast vouchers for dinner. lol.
Did I mention that it's two of us and we are meeting a third person in Indianapolis? The third person is sharing our room since we're cheap and all. The problem (for him anyways) is that he does not have a cell phone or any way to contact him. His flight left later than ours was scheduled so he should have got there after us. Not now. :) His name wasn't on the hotel room so I called the hotel and told them that we had to change plans and to add his name onto the room so he could check in. Of course since he has no cell phone to call and let him know this. Last I checked at about 11pm nobody had checked in so either he got delayed too and is stuck in Charlotte, NC or he's wandering the convention waiting for us to show up.
So we're just chilling in the hotel in Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area using the hotels WiFi. Wireless internet for the win! \o/
And what dorks are we that we are posting to LJ/web surfing and playing Dungeons & Dragons Online? Wish me luck with tomorrow's flight. And I'll try to post about the fun times I plan to have at GenCon.
