So after getting into Indy finally around 11am we got to the hotel and checked in. Thursday is usually a slow day at the convention since there aren't as many things going on.
The highlight of the day for us was that I had secured 3 tickets to True Dungeon. It's a live action D&D event. You don't wear costumes and talk in funny accents but it is D&D. The cool thing is that they took a huge ballroom at one of the hotels and set it up as a replica of a D&D setting. You crawl through tunnels, explore rooms, disarm traps and all kinds of neat things. Just trust me that it's pretty freaking awesome. We were supposed to meet the other people in our party at 1:30 so the True Dungeon people could explain how it works since we hadn't played before. Usually this event sells out almost every slot about 3 months before the convention. I was hard pressed to get 3 tickets in the same party and that was only about 2 hours after registration opened. And they run 8 person groups every 15 minutes for about 16 hours a day for 4 days in a row. Of course my two partners in crime wander off and get distracted by a White Castle. So after waiting forever I sold their tickets to some random dudes that wanted to play.
The True Dungeon people showed us how everything worked and we successfully completed the mission. Yay us! Now I am a certified level 2 player...whatever that means. Hopefully it means something good if I play again. Although the Cleric did get turned to stone and our Wizard almost got killed by a Stone Golem. The set up is pretty good and I highly recommend it to anybody that likes D&D or just fantasy roleplay in general.
The lack of my friends to play with kind of ticked me off since it's kind of nice to do events with a friend. Nothing against the people I did play with but I would have preferred my buddies so we could all geek out later. :)
After True Dungeon I headed to the dealer room and browsed some wares. I didn't even get a chance to look at all the booths due to the room closing. It's hard to look at everything in a dealer room that's 30% larger than a football field. I did buy a few things and learn some stuff. I bought the new Battletech starter kit which doesn't release until next month. I also bought a Battlestar Galactica RPG. It's the same system the Serenity RPG and the Supernatural RPG use. And the Supernatural RPG comes out next month. They don't have it for sale here yet but the game designer is running some 'play and learn' type games for it tomorrow. I'm hoping they have a real copy and not just a bunch of print outs. And another early release for Gen Con is the 24 Trading Card Game. That's right...YOU too can be Jack Bauer. And as expected all the versions of Jack are pretty bad ass. I picked up a few starters of it and played a demo. It's a pretty good game. We'll see how well it does.
Eventually I made my way back to the hotel room and fell asleep in a chair after planning to just 'sit down for a minute'. Since it was too late to do much I stayed in the room for an hour and browsed all 160+ pages of phone book size type event listings. This way I circled the things I wanted to do so I can pre-register for them later tomorrow. I meant to do it tonight but I forgot. :) And it's 5am and I don't feel like leaving the room.
I did play a Magic booster draft that started at midnight. I drafted an awesome deck and it took me to the top 2 of the single elimination tournament. Since first place was 6 packs and second place was 4 I gave the other guy in the top two the win and we split the packs 5 each. I would loved to have beat the guy since he was kind of arrogant and apparently a total luck sack. He beat Isamu in the top 4 with a lucky top deck. I knew he wouldn't be fun to play AND it was 4am so I'm glad he split the prize.
I also found out about an unannounced guest. Hayden Panettiere (the cheerleader from Heroes) will be here Sunday to sign autographs at one of the dealer booths. She's promoting this new collectible online horse trading card game called Bella Sara. It's targeted for girls about 8-10. So if I want an autograph I'll have to totally look like a pedophile and hang out at the booth with cracked out My Little Ponies all over the place.
So until tomorrow!
EDIT The White Castle burgers destroyed the intestinal fortitude of the guys who came with me. The were sick the rest of the night. Isamu ended up vomiting in the bathroom. Drew is telling me that White Castle is so great and I'm refusing to believe it. Between puking episodes Isamu's voice comes from the bathroom to interrupt us. "They're still delicious. Even on the way up."
I kid you not. :)

Anyway, no clue what medium SPN is going to be on. PC? And... AH! *looks back at your post* Aw, you did say Serenity RPG!!! Oh, my friend Laura bought me Firefly, so I'm officially on board as a fan! And the movie makes WAY more sense after watching the series than it did before I saw the show, lmao.
And will you be selling these RPGs, perchance? Hmmm?

It's going to be a book and will use the same system as the Serenity and BSG games.

That just sounds awesome and I wish I could say I wouldn't ditch you for White Castle but we don't have White Castles here in Florida and the temptation might have been too much for me to resist. I think if you swore we'd go afterwards it would be okay but I do have to sympathize with those that were lured away from you.
So is everything going good though? Lots of fun to be had by all?

I was miffed about not going. I mean, it's like the Biggest Ball of Twine. Gotta go.
Though Sierra Vista, AZ where I now live IS home to the world's first McDonald's drive-thru. Muahahahaha.
What a helluva tangent.
